Thermage

Thermage™ is a non-invasive cosmetic treatment that is used to tighten and firm the skin on the face and body. Through the use of radiofrequency, it targets, stimulates and regenerates collagen deep inside the skin without the use of incisions, injections, or lasers. The result is an improvement of the skin texture and tone to more youthful appearance as the regenerating collagen fills in wrinkles and levels the skin's outer layer. The results are noticeable immediately but with even more dramatic results over the next few month s. Body by Thermage is effective on many areas of the body to tighten the skin on the face, tummy, arms, hands, legs and boost buttocks.

How Does Body by Thermage Work?

The skin is composed of 3 layers – the epidermis (first layer), the dermis (second layer) and the subcutaneous (third layer). Collagen, which provides the skin with strength and firmess, resides in the second and third layers of the skin. As we age, the body begins to decrease its natural production of collagen, which results in wrinkles and skin laxity. Using the heat from radiofrequency technology, Thermage targets the collagen in the dermis and subscutaneous layers, causing it to tighten, resulting in tighter and more youthful looking skin. The procedure also activates the body's own natural healing response, leading to new collagen production.

Treatments are performed in a doctor's office by Thermage-certified personnel. The ThermaCool NXT is Thermage's most advanced system for non-invasive skin tightening and contouring. It is comprised of a state of the art radiofrequency generator, coolant system with resevoir, ergonomic handpiece and setting console screen.

Although anesthesia is not necessary, the patient may be offered numbing cream prior to the procedure to make sure that the patient is comfortable. During the procedure, the technician sprays a coolant onto the patients skin. The technician then applies the ThermaCool NXT handpiece to the patient's skin. Depending on the size of the treatment area, the entire procedure can last anywhere from a few minutes to an hour. Sometimes there may be a mild pinching or burning sensation, which quickly dissipates. Patients can resume normal daily activities almost immediately after the Thermage procedure is complete, with little or no downtime.

Patients will normally notice the results between two weeks to six months following a single procedure. And these results can last anywhere from six months to several years.
